Four higher level texts relating to themes of homelessness, human rights, disability and drug abuse. Each text is followed by questions in English.

The first text is about a Grundschullehrer who answered a pupil's question about Father Christmas with the truth. The second text is a weather report covering the prospects of there being a white Christmas. Both texts are followed by questions in English.

Text in French about the sinking of the Titanic, followed by comprehension questions in English, a 'find the phrase' exercise, a manipulation exercise, some French FAQs about the Titanic, a bit of internet research to find the answers to the FAQs, and a writing task. Text about the decision of Germany's Young Liberals to support nuclear power. Text is followed by comprehension questions in German and an exercise in the use of the subjunctive. (NB Typo removed following comment below!)

PPT for presentation to pupils approaching exams. Based substantially on an article, summarising extensive research conducted by Dr Tom Stafford of Sheffield University. PPT deals with (i) organisation vs cramming (ii) the value of learning from failure (iii) the need to practise (iv) processing information aids memory and (v) rest and sleep. I've added some links to helpful websites.

Powerpoint which builds up, slide by slide to create a table illustrating adjectival endings in the Accusative after 'Es gibt ... '. The examples are all in the context of desribing a room. The table is followed by images of celebrities, and students then have to speculate as to what there is in their room.

This is an extended version of a ppt I uploaded previously. It consists of a number of pictures of people, celebs and otherwise, and the pupils simply have to speculate as to how old they are.

This dialogue is set in a hotel but practices the prepositions and vocab you need to describe your own room.

Interactive drag-and-drop IW activity for practising jobs and professions. The activity has 50 jobs embedded, but will select at random 10 jobs to practise each time it is opened. With any luck it will never be the same activity twice!

A PPT in which students must choose from two options (eg petit / petite) in order to describe a number of celebs or film characters. The first slide acts as a home page, hyperlinking to students to unseen photos of characters.

Interactive drag-and-drop IW activity for practising question words

Ppt featuring severely cropped authentic images of places in Berlin (station, supermarket etc). Pupils have to try to guess what the place is and say'Hier gibt es ...'. The cropped image is followed by the full image to confirm the answer or make it a bit easier, and this is then supported with the correct sentence in German. Colour coding has been used to emphasize gender. The final four slides build up a table modelling the use of the Nominative after Das ist vs the Accusative after Es gibt. This could be elicited from students before clicking in each answer.

Simple Powerpoint activity for practising key verbs related to the topic of the environment.

The first file contains a text modelling a relatively straight forward description of a dream home, followed by conjugation of möchte, wäre and hätte. The second file contains a toolkit to help students write about a dream home. They could do this from their own point of view or from the point of view of a fictitious character. PS Typo fixed!

The link is to a six-minute video clip in which young Germans test three different means of transport for price, comfort, speed and environmental impact. The worksheet has (i) a comprehension task relating to the video (ii) an article covering the video content which students can use to check or augment their answers (iii) a comprehension task based on the article (iv) a speaking task and (v) a writing task. If the link doesn't work, just put Wie öko sind Fernbus, Bahn und Auto? into a youtube search.

Powerpoint used for departmental CPD to invite reflection on the relative demands of typical MFL activities, using Bloom's and / or Winebrenner's Taxonomy as a framework.

Interactive multi-choice activity for practising the various grammar points. 30 questions are embedded but the activity will select 20 items at random to practise each time it is opened. It will also arrange the questions and the multi-choice answers in random order. With any luck it will never be the same twice. PS In response to the comments below I have de-bugged the original file. This one should be error-free. I've changed the background colour of the exercise too.
